The Svensk Hyllningsfest Committee announced the selection of Chester G. and Jeanette Peterson for King and Queen of the 2017 Svensk Hyllningsfest, which will be held October 13-14.
Mr. and Mrs. Peterson have been residents of rural Lindsborg their entire married lives. While raising their four children, the couple have quietly volunteered throughout the community especially in their church and for the Lindsborg Swedish Dancers. Mr. Peterson was a partner in the International Harvester dealership in Lindsborg, a farmer, and a rural mail carrier. After retiring, he has spent many hours pursuing his interest in history by working on the archives of Bethany Lutheran Church and as member of the Smoky Valley Historical Association.
Mrs. Peterson spent many years making Swedish costumes and tea rings for bake sales for the Lindsborg Swedish Dancers. She is an active member in Women of ELCA and Naomi Circle and the hospital auxiliary.
King and Queen nominations were accepted for individuals over the age of 65 who live in Smoky Valley, are of Swedish descent, and have contributed significantly to the community’s enrichment and preservation of Swedish heritage. The Petersons will participate in the Thursday evening community church service, preside over the downtown entertainment, ride in the parade, and have a place of honor at the Smorgasbord during Hyllningsfest.
