Lindsborg Swedish
Folk Dancers
The Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers, a group of about forty high-school age
young persons, are recognized nationally as a unique folk dance group. Founded in 1963,
the dancers learn and perform traditional Swedish folk dances.

The Dancers wear traditional Swedish folk costumes, many of which are
family heirlooms, others are carefully researched and made to represent specific parishes
and provinces in Sweden where relatives once lived. The active and cheerful dances are
performed to the music of the folk musicians who practice an extra year, joining as early
as the eighth grade to the the folk tunes.
The Dancers' colorful performances have become an intergral part of the
traditional Swedish Festivals in Lindsborg - Svensk Hyllningsfest, Midsummer's Day, and
Lucia Fest - providing an opportunity for young people to share a very special heritage
with friends and guests.

The group has traveled to Canada and extensively in the United States, to
both coasts and throughout the Midwest, dancing at Disneyland, Wolf Trap Farm Park for the
Performing Arts, and on television in Chicago. Every four years they make a trip to Sweden
and frequently host touring Swedish folk dance groups.
The Dancers are a non-profit educational group, earning money for their
travels through their fund-raising projects. They host a traditional Scandinavian
Smörgåsbord on Midsummer's Day, sell a Swedish Cookbook now in its 7th printing, and
have published a second cookbook that includes recipes from Munkfors, Sweden, Lindsborg's
sister city.
