Swedish Costume Exhibit

Other

Celebrating Lindsborg through Folk Costumes Exhibit
Where: Kelly Wilson’s Design Studio, 113 West State Street, Lindsborg

When planning the first Hyllningsfest Lindsborg residents were urged to look for costumes that might still exist in attics and trunks. For the many who were not of Swedish descent and for those families who did not have the costume tradition there were still the tailor and seamstresses who could create a replica of traditional dress using existing costumes from different provinces and towns.

You will find examples of the costumes made in or purchased from Sweden and examples of costumes made in Lindsborg using New World ingenuity and materials to copy the specific details the costume maker saw as being important.

As you visit the exhibit you will begin to gain an insight into what today are referred to as the differences between a “Swedish Costume” and a “Hyllningsfest or Lindsborg Costume.” Both are the beautiful expression of a love for tradition and a celebration of heritage.
